
Kate Goldhaber, PhD
Dr. Kate Goldhaber is the Dr. John J.B. Morgan Fellow at the Family Institute, completing a two-year program of advanced training in family and couples therapy. She received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Virginia.
Dr. Goldhaber treats a variety of populations including adolescents, adults, couples, and families. She has received training in numerous therapeutic approaches, including participating on multidisciplinary teams using the Milan model. Most recently, Dr. Goldhaber graduated with honors from Allegheny General Hospital’s predoctoral internship training program in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She provided assessment and group therapy services for an intensive psychiatric day treatment program serving acutely mentally ill adults with affective, anxiety, and personality disorders. Dr. Goldhaber also received specialized training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Dr. Goldhaber has conducted research in a variety of areas related to family and couple functioning. She has collaborated in creating and refining family assessment tools to aid mental health professionals in formulating and implementing treatment plans. She has also focused on the assessment of couples’ relationship satisfaction and longevity. Additionally, Dr. Goldhaber also has a strong interest in body image, weight, and eating disorders. She has examined how women’s body image is associated with their social functioning, sexual functioning, and romantic relationship quality. Currently, Dr. Goldhaber is involved with the Psychotherapy Change Project at The Family Institute.
Clinical Interests: Couples intimacy, communication, conflict, and transitions; families coping with mental illness; recovering from trauma, grief, and loss; body image, weight, and eating disorders.
