Consultant

Wells Fargo, San Francisco, CA

Wells Fargo is looking for Ph.D.s or for individuals who are working to complete their Ph.D. The requirements would include the desire to:

  • work with ultra-high-net-worth families, typically $50M+ (experience in already doing so is a plus)
  • serve as consultant to Family Wealth Group team members to discuss family dynamics and various approaches for client meetings
  • interact directly with families around family dynamics and systems
  • develop tools/exercises to use as client deliverables as a part of the legacy process
  • serve as faculty for family retreats, as needed
  • be involved in special projects, as needed – an example would be building relationships with external individuals who could serve as retreat faculty or developing relationships with vendors for exercises or retreat venue locations

These individuals would not be serving in any type of counseling or therapy role. Instead, they would be applying their knowledge around family systems and dynamics to help the family undergo the legacy process and bridge to our family governance team when or if appropriate. The legacy process typically includes:

  • looking at the family’s past
  • helping the family to decide what they want for the future
  • working with the family in the present on action plans

Wells Fargo uses several exercises to facilitate the legacy process, centered around family values, strengths, etc.

Licensed Adolescent Counselor

Carlbrook School, South Boston, VA

Because of its continued growth, Carlbrook School currently has an immediate opening for a full-time adolescent counselor (advisor) and is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic professional who wants to make a difference in the lives of students. The Advisor position is a permanent, full-time faculty position. Advisors work with a predetermined group of students, and are responsible for facilitating individual and group counseling sessions, assisting in student and family workshops, providing student mentoring and advising, and supporting school faculty in logistical and administrative duties. The position does require some night and weekend work, as these are the periods in which students are out of classes and need the most supervision and guidance. However, it should be emphasized that such night and weekend work is performed within regular hours (i.e. no overnight work is required), and is kept to the minimum that the school's staffing needs will allow.

The starting annual salary for this position is $45,000 with full benefits (group health insurance and optional dental plan, life insurance, short-term disability insurance, 401(k) plan w/ employer contributions, paid time off, $1,500 signing bonus to assist with relocation, etc.), which is highly competitive for this region given its low cost of living. Applicants should possess a Master’s degree and hold a license in Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.

Carlbrook School is a small coeducational boarding school in southern Virginia (located about 60 miles north of Raleigh/Durham, NC) for bright, underachieving students aged 15 to 18 who are experiencing difficulty in the academic mainstream. While the school is still somewhat new, we have been able to offer our students an uncommonly broad and advanced level of year-round instruction for a school our size. Despite a current student census of only around 120 students, the school now provides over 50 different academic offerings, ranging from traditional core subjects to a full range of AP coursework to a variety of nontraditional electives such as Existential Literature, Middle Eastern Studies and Anatomy/Physiology. In order to assist our students in realizing their academic potential, the school offers extremely small classes (average is 8-10 students), individualized and innovative instruction, and intensive mentoring and counseling.  The school currently employs some 46 professional faculty members (i.e. teachers, advisors, and other non-support personnel), of which approximately 80% hold advanced (post-baccalaureate) degrees.
