Applying for a Fellowship

General Clinical Fellowship Application

Below are the application materials necessary for the General Clinical Fellowship. Please follow the instructions below.

 

Applicants should:

1. Complete the Postgraduate General Clinical Fellowship Application.

2. Submit a cover letter which should describe why you are applying for this fellowship and how you feel this fellowship fits in with your career plans.

3. Submit a curriculum vita which should include information about your clinical training experiences, including employment and education history, as well as any publications, presentations and memberships in professional organizations.

4. Submit transcripts of all graduate work.

5. Submit three sealed letters of recommendation that should come from individuals who have or have had direct knowledge of your clinical performance and be able to evaluate it. Sealed letters from the recommender can be sent from the applicant, directly from the recommender, or can be e-mailed from the recommender. For the General Clinical Fellowship, at least one letter must be from someone who has supervised your clinical work. See Guidelines for General Clinical Fellowship Letters of Recommendation.

Application documents can be submitted together in one package or can be sent as separate items as they are available.

Applications for the General Clinical Fellowship will be accepted beginning October 17, 2011 and complete applications are due by January 14, 2012. An application is considered to be complete when all required application documents have been received by The Family Institute at Northwestern University. Applications received after this date may not be considered for the current year. After the application has been reviewed, qualified candidates will be invited to interview. Invitations are extended after January through March. All applicants will be notified by letter of the faculty's decision as quickly as possible, in most cases by April 1st.

Clinical Research Fellowship

To apply to for the Clinical Research Fellowship, please follow the instructions below.

 

1. All required application materials (a cover letter, curriculum vita, 3 sealed letters of recommendation, and sealed transcripts) must be completed and submitted in one package to Lynne Knobloch-Fedders, PhD, at the address below.

 

2. In your cover letter, be sure to address the following three questions: 1) Why are you applying to this fellowship? 2) How does this fellowship fit with your education and training thus far? 3) How will this fellowship advance your short- and long-term career goals?

 

3. Enclose a current curriculum vita. Be sure to include a thorough description of your research and clinical training experiences.

 

4. Request transcripts of all graduate work. Transcripts should be official copies, enclosed in a sealed envelope from the school's registrar.

 

5. Three (3) letters of recommendation are required. Persons writing letters of recommendation must have direct knowledge of your clinical and/or research performance. At least one letter of recommendation must be from a research supervisor, and one letter of recommendation must be from a clinical supervisor. Each letter of recommendation should be submitted in a sealed envelope with the recommender's signature across the seal.

 

6. To ensure that your application receives full consideration, all application materials must be received by January 24, 2011. After the applications have been reviewed, qualified candidates will be invited for interviews, which will be held on Wednesday, February 16, and Wednesday, February 23, 2011. During these interviews, candidates will be asked to present their research work at a colloquium, and will interview with faculty members and current Fellows of the program.
