Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology Program
Tuition and Financial Assistance

The required courses for the Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology are divided into one credit and zero credit units. Those followed by a (1) are one credit courses for which tuition is paid, while those followed by a (0) are zero-credit courses for which no tuition is charged (for current tuition rates see The Graduate School Web site at www.northwestern.edu/graduate). Students who take three credit units during a quarter are enrolled full-time in that quarter and pay a "package tuition rate" for the quarter. Students who take one or two credit units during a quarter are enrolled part-time in that quarter and pay "a per course tuition rate" for the quarter. Students in the Standard Curriculum pay tuition for 17 credit units; students in the Two-Plus Curriculum pay tuition for 19 credit units.

Northwestern Masters students are not eligible for University scholarship or fellowship aid or for University teaching assistantships; only PhD students are eligible for this aid. Therefore, any reference made to University scholarship or fellowship aid in The Graduate School informational materials, including the December 31st deadline for applicants requesting financial aid application forms, refers to Ph.D. students only. However, after matriculating students may compete for departmental teaching assistantships and research assistantship positions on faculty grants. Masters students are eligible for all loan programs administered through The Graduate School (see the Financial Aid section of The Graduate School Web site at www.northwestern.edu/graduate). The Graduate School sends information about the student loan application process to all admitted students.

Many students work while in the program, most on a part-time basis. The optimum job is one with flexibility, especially during the years of field training when blocks of time are required. While most employment opportunities are found off campus, Northwestern offers job opportunities which can be discussed with program faculty. Information about applying for graduate positions as residence hall assistants or residence hall coordinators may be obtained from the Office of Undergraduate Residence Life. The undergraduate residential colleges offer graduate students positions as Assistant Masters, and applications may be obtained from the Office of Residential Colleges.
