
Megan Mayberry, PhD
Dr. Megan Mayberry is the Madigan Family Fellow at the Family Institute, completing a two-year postdoctoral program of advanced training in marital and family therapy. Dr. Mayberry received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University and completed her M.S. & Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to coming to the Family Institute, she completed her predoctoral internship residency training at Yale University School of Medicine. Here, she provided intensive psychiatric services to patients with severe and persistent mental illness in outpatient and community settings including, individual and group therapy, psychological assessment, and collaborated with various systems of care, including, the special education system, psychiatrists, pediatricians, child protective services, and the juvenile court system. Dr. Mayberry has clinical experience with children, adolescents, and families and emphasizes the integration of developmental and systems perspectives on psychopathology and treatment. Dr. Mayberry has also received specialized training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and assessment and treatment of alcohol and other drug issues.
Dr. Mayberry has presented and published several studies focusing on adolescents and families. Her prior research includes understanding the impact of communities and schools on adolescent development and how community factors interact with parental and peer factors when examining adolescent risk behavior. Dr. Mayberry has also collaborated on projects examining adolescent racial identity development and bullying within middle and high schools.
Clinical Interests: Adolescent and young adult individual therapy; family and couples therapy; parent-child relationships, emotional and behavioral regulation difficulties, post-traumatic stress/trauma and recovery; psychological assessment, families with mental illness, and severe mental illness.
