It is well known that engaging in physical movement has both biological and psychological benefits, however, in the U.S., only 1 in 4 adults and 1 in 5 adolescents meet physical activity guidelines (ODPHP, n.d.). More public education is needed about the benefits of exercise.
One way people are moving is through sports participation. In fact, the Sport & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA, 2024) reported that people are starting to move more, and nearly 80% of Americans participated in a sporting activity in 2023.
The Exercise & Sport Psychology for Mental Health (ESP-MH) Lab aims to combine well known facts about sports and exercise with motivating public education messages to help people gain an understanding of the physical, psychological, and social benefits of movement. The Lab will accomplish this through original online programming (via Zoom) and producing literature to support our goals.
