What You’ll Get from Therapy with The Family Institute

  • Therapists provide tools and techniques to help you communicate more effectively, ensuring both partners feel heard and understood.
  • Couples therapy can rebuild emotional intimacy by addressing feelings of disconnection or loneliness, and help partners better understand and meet each other’s emotional needs.
  • Learn practical strategies to navigate disagreements constructively. Therapy can reduce the intensity and frequency of conflicts, helping couples approach problems collaboratively rather than combatively.
  • For couples dealing with infidelity or betrayal, therapy offers a safe space to rebuild trust and address underlying issues. Trust restoration through therapy can lead to deeper relationship satisfaction in the long term.

How to Know When You Should See a Therapist

For most couples, it’s not easy to make the decision to try counseling. It’s not easy to acknowledge that things aren’t as perfect as we’d like them to be in a relationship that started out with high hopes and great expectations. It takes courage to acknowledge that everything we have tried at home hasn’t been enough to achieve the results we’re looking for. Research has found that the longer couples wait before seeking counseling, the harder it becomes to turn around unhelpful habits and resolve hurt and resentment. When relationship problems persist for three months or longer, even a brief consultation with a couple counselor can be helpful in setting the partnership on a better course.
