Amanda Kaplan

Amanda Kaplan, M.S., AMFT, A.B.D. (she/her) is an associate licensed marriage and family therapist (ALMFT) in Illinois and a postdoctoral clinical scholar fellow transitioning to a staff clinician role at The Family Institute at Northwestern University. She is currently completing her doctorate in Couple, Marriage, and Family Therapy at Texas Tech University.

Mrs. Kaplan specializes in working with individuals, couples, and families navigating complex relational and emotional challenges, with a particular emphasis on grief and life transitions. She is especially passionate about supporting couples across the lifespan, from premarital counseling and relationship enrichment to discernment work and collaborative divorce. Her approach is grounded in evidence-based practices and a commitment to helping clients foster resilience and connection.

Fluent in French and deeply connected to Francophone culture through her studies at Université Grenoble Alpes in France, Mrs. Kaplan enjoys working with Chicago’s Franco-American community and providing culturally responsive care.

Mrs. Kaplan earned her M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy from The Family Institute at Northwestern University, where she received advanced training in Integrative Systemic Therapy (IST). She is a certified Prepare/Enrich facilitator for premarital counseling, holds certification in the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) for cognitive impairment screening, and has completed Level 1 training in the Gottman Method.

Her clinical experience includes roles as a therapist at the Children’s Behavioral Health Clinic and as a clinical supervisor at the Family Therapy Clinic at Texas Tech. Currently, Mrs. Kaplan serves as a clinical supervisor at The Family Institute, mentoring graduate students in therapeutic practice. She is also an active researcher in the Couple & Family Development Lab and recently served as an instructor for the Family Therapy Models course in Northwestern’s marriage and family therapy program.

Mrs. Kaplan’s work is guided by a belief in the healing power of relationships. Whether working with individuals or systems, she strives to create a collaborative space where growth and connection can thrive.
