When the Relationship Is the Obsession: How Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Affects Attachment & Intimacy
Join us for a free, virtual workshop and open discussion on relationship obsessive-compulsive disorder (ROCD). Obsessive-compulsive disorder focused on concerns about interpersonal relationships can have severe impacts on individuals, couples, and families. In the context of romantic or marital relationships, a partner’s undiagnosed or untreated ROCD may drive cycles of dysfunctional and distressing relational patterns that lead couples to seek treatment. This presentation will provide an overview of the features of ROCD to help couples therapists identify and more effectively treat affected couples.
Attendees will learn to:
- Recognize cognitive and behavioral characteristics that underlie all presentations of OCD, regardless of subtype.
- Identify types of relationship fears that can drive obsessions in ROCD.
- Recognize cognitive and behavioral patterns that may serve as subtle compulsions in ROCD.
- Identify assessment measures and psychoeducational resources for individuals with ROCD.
- Understand treatment strategies for ROCD.
Led by Ethan Husbands, LCPC, Joselyn Nelson, LCPC, Velizar Nikiforov, LCPC, and Grace Schmidt, LCSW.
This workshop is intended for psychotherapists, and it will not be recorded. All registrants will receive a Zoom link via email by Monday, January 12.
