Additional Support, Advice and Events are coming this May

CHICAGO – April 2023- This May, The Family Institute at Northwestern University will once again join the national movement to honor Mental Health Awareness Month. Expert advice, added resources and community events will be available throughout the month as the organization brings awareness about the importance of taking care of one’s mental and whole health.

The mental health crisis continues to be unprecedented across people of all ages as 90% of U.S. adults believe the country is facing a mental health crisis and two out of five adults report symptoms of anxiety and depression. Additionally, the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic continue to affect the mental health needs of many communities, disproportionately affecting communities of color who were left undertreated and children and adolescents who faced increased social isolation, anxiety and learning loss.

For over 50 years, The Family Institute has supported families, individuals, couples, children, and adolescents. This month they will introduce additional resources to support those who may be struggling with their mental health. This includes weekly mental health tips on their social media channels, new articles and access to their behavioral health Library & Resources page featuring content grounded in the latest research and developed by The Family Institute’s expert clinicians.

The Family Institute will also bring forth several community events during the month. The inaugural Gratitude Gala will take place on Wednesday, May 10th at 5:30pm CT at the Ivy Room at Tree Studios in Chicago. This fundraising event for the Bette D. Harris Family & Child Clinic will honor mental health advocates, Governor J.B. Pritzker, Senator Laura Fine, and former NFL player Ryan Mundy. On Wednesday, May 24th at 12:00pm CT, The Family Institute’s Neuropsychological Assessment team will lead an engaging virtual discussion about the Autism Spectrum Disorder. Finally, The Family Institute will host a Black Mental Health Community Town Hall in partnership with Apostolic Faith Church on Wednesday, May 24th at 7:00pm CT. The Family Institute is thrilled to bring these additional resources and events to the community this Mental Health Awareness Month and invites you to speak with one of their many clinical experts on how they are providing support for those in need of mental health care.
