According to the National Institute for Mental Health, more than one in five adults lives with a mental illness — but only half receive treatment. On October 10, 2025, World Mental Health Day, NBC Chicago interviewed Dr. Anthony Chambers, Chief Academic Officer of The Family Institute at Northwestern University.

You don't have to suffer in silence. Through The Family Institute's Bette D. Harris Family & Child Clinic, we provide no-cost and bilingual therapy in downtown Chicago, in Evanston, and via teletherapy to those who could not otherwise afford it.

"For anyone out there wondering, 'Should I come in, should I get some help with my relationships, with my family, or for myself individually?'" says Dr. Chambers, "know that you don't have to wait — that as soon as you call, you're gonna be seeing someone within 24 to 48 hours."
