New 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program Coming Winter 2024

CHICAGO - December 2023 - Nearly 50% of Americans will set new years’ resolutions and goals to improve some aspect of their lives, and many are learning how something as simple as practicing mindfulness mediation can improve clarity, sleep cycles, chronic pain and reduce depression, stress, and anxiety-related symptoms.  Recent studies have also found that people using mindfulness meditation techniques such as breath awareness, body scanning, and mindful movement saw their anxiety improve nearly as much as those who were taking common antidepressants.

This January, The Family Institute will offer an 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program that will introduce the practice of mindfulness-bass stress reduction that will help participants create stronger mind-body connection, increase emotional health & well-being, and reduce depression, stress, and anxiety.

“It is so easy to go through daily life unaware of ourselves mentally, emotionally, and physically. When stress compounds with reactivity, this can create unhealthy patterns in our health and relationships. Mindfulness offers a space of awareness to notice our own stress reactivity and habitual coping methods” says Karla Hargrove, Staff Therapist and Certified Teacher of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. “The 8-week MBSR program invites students to use mindfulness-based interventions to soothe the body’s nervous system by switching-off from reactivity to responsivity – a present-moment healing that is an essential gift to offer yourself and others in the New Year.”

The winter MBSR program led by Karla Hargrove, M.A., LPC, will begin with orientation on January 16, 2024, followed by 8 weekly sessions starting January 23, 2024, through February 24, 2024. The cost of the 8-week program is $400 and registration can be found at www.family-institute.org/therapy-programs/winter-2024-mindfulness-based-stress-reduction-series.
