Experts from The Family Institute joined The Disruptors’ filmmaker and executive producer in a panel discussion around the multiple perspectives surrounding ADHD.

On October 27, 2022, The Family Institute at Northwestern University hosted a screening of The Disruptors film at the Chicago Cultural Center. This documentary takes viewers through the challenges and surprising triumphs of living with ADHD. 

Following the screening, The Family Institute's Drs. Nancy Burgoyne, Chief Clinical Officer, Smita Gautam, Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist and Tramaine Presley, Director of Child, Adolescent and Family Services joined Nancy Armstrong, Filmmaker and Executive Producer, for a panel discussion on the film and the multiple perspectives surrounding ADHD. Evelyn Holmes of ABC 7 Chicago served as the moderator for the discussion.

Nancy Burgoyne, Ph.D.

Chief Clinical Officer
Nancy Burgoyne, Ph.D., (she/her) is the chief clinical officer at The Family Institute at Northwestern University. She is a licensed clinical psychologist and a family therapist who abides by the scientist-practitioner model. She has more than 30 years of experience providing direct service to clients, and for more than 20 years, has supervised and served as a leader to her fellow clinicians. In Dr. Burgoyne's current leadership role, she created and oversees The Family Institute's continuous clinical quality improvement team. She led the integration of teletherapy into the practice, established the Clinical Practice Advisory Council, and leads the organization's effort to provide continuous learning opportunities for clinical staff in order to ensure high quality care. Dr. Burgoyne is a faculty member in the Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy program and has extensive experience developing graduate school level systemically oriented curricula. Dr. Burgoyne is committed to approaching her work with cultural humility and believes that every human being is worthy of compassionate witnessing.

Smita Gautam, M.D.

Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist

Dr. Gautam is a Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. She completed her child/adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is also board certified in adult psychiatry and had completed her adult psychiatry residency at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH. Prior to her training in the U.S., Dr.

Tramaine Presley, Psy.D., LCPC, LMHC

Staff Therapist

Dr. Tramaine Presley is a graduate from Wright State University School of Professional Psychology in Dayton, Ohio, where she received her doctorate degree in clinical psychology (Psy.D). She is a dual state (Illinois and Indiana) licensed clinical professional counselor.
