Few things, if any, can rival the strength of the bond of motherhood. The significance of this relationship is what imbues it with an array of powerful experiences and emotions. Such emotional experiences with or as mothers form over time our unique and shared meanings of motherhood. Transitions to Parenthood Clinical Director Nikki Lively, LCSW, hosted a discussion around themes of motherhood and took questions alongside colleagues Allen Sabey, Ph.D., and Heather Lofton, Ph.D.

Ms. Lively is a certified Emotionally Focused couples Therapist (EFT) and her main area of expertise is supporting women, men, infants, couples and families in the transition to parenthood. In addition, she specializes in women's reproductive health.

Allen K. Sabey, Ph.D., LMFT, is currently a therapist and core faculty member in the Master of Science in Marriage & Family Therapy program at The Family Institute at Northwestern University. He completed his M.S. degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and his Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies at Auburn University.

Heather C. Lofton, Ph.D.

Dr. Lofton is an integrative therapist, well-versed in addressing mental health concerns among individual adults and couples from diverse racial ethnic backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, religious beliefs and sexual orientations.
