Karem's therapeutic approach focuses on emotional experiencing and the transformative power of being present to what life has to offer. He employs a mindful approach to help individuals foster a sense of agency and belonging, and to let go of suffering. Karem’s journey as a former Iraqi refugee impacted his approach and philosophy on finding healing and meaning in pain.
With a clinical master's degree in social work from The University of Chicago, Karem has undergone comprehensive training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Furthermore, he has received specialized training in Contextually focused Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (C-DBT) from the psychologist Paul Holmes, an expert in Chronic Distress and the founder of C-DBT.
Karem is committed to creating a supportive and empowering therapeutic environment. He is passionate about working with individuals to get out of repetitive cycles of distress and build the life they want. His specific areas of interest include chronic distress, self-harm behaviors, and intense emotions. While understanding the healing journey is painful and challenging, through a personalized approach, Karem guides individuals toward a path of resilience and emotional well-being.
