Like air, food and water, close connection (attachment) is fundamental to who we are as a species. But navigating the challenges when two people build a life together is rarely easy. Until the day comes when every school curriculum teaches the skills needed for successful partnership, couples will struggle to communicate and problem-solve effectively all the while facing the disharmony and distress that so often colors a couple’s landscape.
At The Family Institute, we help people from all walks of life build stronger, healthier relationships. Our team of couple therapists is specially trained in addressing issues like emotional distance and disconnection, conflict and communication, the challenges of parenting, sex and intimacy, infidelity, financial stress, work-life balance, religion and value differences, and so much more.
And when couples choose to end their relationships or divorce, we have the expertise to guide them through the difficult steps of uncoupling, with an eye toward minimizing conflict and maximizing mutual respect and understanding.
Our knowledge and experience offers something of value to couples at every stage of the life cycle, from premarital counseling to mid-life challenges, to facing the empty nest or looking ahead to retirement. Relationships are our passion, and we can help you make the most of yours.
When To Go To Couple Therapy?
For most couples, it’s not easy to make the decision to try counseling. It’s not easy to acknowledge that things aren’t as perfect as we’d like them to be in a relationship that started out with high hopes and great expectations. It takes courage to acknowledge that everything we have tried at home hasn’t been enough to achieve the results we’re looking for. Research has found that the longer couples wait before seeking counseling, the harder it becomes to turn around unhelpful habits and resolve hurt and resentment. When relationship problems persist for three months or longer, even a brief consultation with a couple counselor can be helpful in setting the partnership on a better course.
